Dining Room Refresh

Hi friends. Anyone else have the Sunday scaries 😆 it’s been a busy week and weekend for us but we checked another project off the to do list, our dining room. Honestly our dining room doesn’t get much use these days since we primarily use it for large gatherings or when family is over. Hopefully this refresh will draw us in there more! We did 3 small projects. A new light fixture, a half shiplap wall and a floating shelf. We’ll break the supplies down into the two different projects:

Floating Shelf Supplies

We decided to do a 6ft shelf to fit the space of our wall so all our measurements are based off that (so alter accordingly). Again we followed the tutorial from DIY Floating Shelves {Free Plans} – Sawdust Sisters but here is the breakdown of supplies:

Lumber

(1) 2×2 at 6 ft (length of shelf)
(1) 1×4 at 6 ft (length of shelf)
(2) 1 x 6 at 6ft (length of shelf)

Cuts

2×2’s: (3) at 3 3/4 inches
(1) at 6ft (length of shelf)
1×4’s: (2) 5.5 inches (for the sides)
(1) at 6ft 1.5 inches (length of shelf plus 1.5 inches)
1×6’s: (2) at 6ft (top and bottom of shelf)

Other Shelf Supplies

Ryobi Airstrike
Ryobi Drill
Kreg Jig Set
Mitre Saw (or cut at local store)
Stain for the shelves (Dark Walnut)
Staining Sponge
Plastic Gloves
Wood Filler
Stud Finder

Shiplap Supplies

Shiplap Wall

We have a detailed post on another shiplap wall here for reference.:

We did this wall mostly the same but we ended up removing the baseboards and adding a piece of trim on the end that doesnt connect with the wall. Here’s a picture of the baseboards that were removed. We first took of the round trim piece by prying and then the white baseboard (stick a thin piece of wood or metal between the wall and a pry bar to avoid too much drywall damage)

Here’s a picture of the trim pieces we put on the end and top:

Obviously the other difference is that we only went up half of the wall.

The light fixture was this one from Home Depot 6 Light Chandelier . Thanks for reading ❤️
