Marble Peel & Stick Tips

It is crazy how much they have out there now for DIY! We were really excited when we saw this was available. It got really great reviews so we wanted to try it. We had a brown speckled granite that we wanted to brighten with the white/gray marble.

Here is a picture of my vanity before applying the marble contact paper:

Step 1: Prep the area
As always, prep is key. You don’t want to have bumps or anything on the surface that will hinder the paper from sticking. When I first started applying this to the area, I didn’t realize there was some caulking on the surface of the granite and the paper had a hard time sticking. Luckily, you are able to remove the paper and try again if needed. I took some soap water to scrub the area and make sure it was clean. Once I did that, I was ready to apply the paper. You want the surface area to be as flat as possible. When I applied to my vanity top, I removed the faucet to keep the area as flat as possible.

Step 2: Apply the contact paper
The contact paper is pretty thick which makes it easy to move around. We watched a bunch of videos and some of the reviews to figure out the best way to apply it. When you lay it down you want to start from one side and use a credit card or a tool like this to help smooth as you go.

The KEY piece of info that we found the most helpful is that the contact paper becomes more stretchy and moldable when heated. When I got to corners and to the edges, I held the blow dryer for a few seconds and then was able to wrap it underneath the edge and pull it tighter. I did this same thing for the sink area. I used an X-Acto knife to cut the sink or other areas that need to be cut off. Overall, it was pretty easy to work with and would definitely use it again!
